.: crazier things have happened :.
Maybe I am the last to find this out, but I heard this weekend (and confirmed this morning) that the guitarist for Korn just recently rededicated his life to Christ. I continue to be amazed at how God is at work in the lives of even those whom we would figure to have absolutely no real feelings about Christ outside of total cynicism. We so often hear such stories, and many all around me tend to discount such "spotlight conversions", but I hope that this story continues to offer such hope to those of us who see none for those who serve in the limelight.

The one thing that disturbed me about this story was that he felt it necessary to quit his band in order to live his Christian life. I haven't read any of his reasons and he may have good ones, but it seems to set a bad precedent of separation. It bothers me that many Christians feel they must participate only in a subculture of Christian music, Christian art, Christian TV, Christian literature (and I use that one loosely), etc.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, though, maybe he has some great reasons.
His reasons were mentioned in the article from MTV that I had attached. It reads as follows;
ReplyDelete"In the note, Welch detailed a long list of reasons for leaving the band, including increased moral objections to Korn's music and videos. In particular, he was upset by how he was portrayed in the clip for their cover of Cameo's 'Word Up'..."
I certainly agree with a large part of what you are speaking to, and this does in fact happen (one band in particular is Downset, where the drummer is supposedly a believer), but I also would tend to agree with Welch's choosing to disassociate himself with the message that he is being used to further, especially since he no longer supports the kind of impact that Korn is having.
Just some food for thought!
